A Summary of the Language
We start with patterns that sketch an outline of the future we’re trying to create for humanity: a global civilization generating a high quality of life for all humans on a thriving planet. Necessarily, these large-scale patterns are broad and non-specific, allowing room for all the creative ideas that will be needed to realize them. They provide a context for the work that needs to be done and can act as guides for how we approach our individual contributions. No single person or organization can design or build these patterns all at once, but we can help them emerge by carefully creating the rich soil they need in order to grow. Each change we make—to ourselves, the world or our Earth—if it’s designed to help create or generate some aspect of these patterns, will move us toward a world in which these patterns are realized.
Do what you can to develop and meaningfully interconnect the global community so that it has the collective capacity and wisdom it needs to avoid our self-annihilation and create a lasting society;
in the shortest possible time, create the conditions for a strong global community by improving each of the three critical centers of human life that are within our influence: humans themselves, the human-designed world, and our Earth;
support, participate in, and add to the projects and organizations that together make up the large-scale movements already underway, working to help humans improve themselves, the world and our Earth in peaceful and constructive ways;
within these movements, work to apply the principles of life that make the larger patterns possible, using them to guide your efforts and the efforts of others;
[[ Infinite Path ]]
[[ Decentralized Control ]]
both in yourself and others, develop your capacities to create effective change, understand the world, and increase your personal integrity.
❖ ❖ ❖
This completes the patterns that define the self, world and Earth we are striving to create. We now look at the patterns that define how we can bring about change, in ourselves and outside ourselves. As world creators, we are the power that drives the engines of change, but only if we accept responsibility and take the initiative. These patterns can be used to design your life around creating a better world, but no one is going to hire you and manage you: you must choose when and how you will participate; you must decide how you can best contribute. You must decide how to use your unique experience, skill and perspective, to manifest those things that only you can bring to the table.
The first group of patterns helps us decide if and how much we want to use our skills and time to help build a better future; this may be something we have to reconsider periodically because following the infinite path, while life-affirming, is not always an easy choice;
[[ Wonderful Future ]]
once you decide if and how much you want to participate, carve out the time, spaces and tools you will need to make your world creating a sustainable part of your life;
starting small, get involved in projects where you can be of service to others while also being challenged enough that you can grow as a person;
in your local communities and neighborhoods, build relationships and ask questions so you can discover work that needs doing from the people who need it;
remembering that you are the best person to determine what you should be working on and how you can best contribute, decide what to work on—either your own innovation or an existing project—that will bring meaningful change to both you and others;
now, with your current work chosen, decide if and how you want to work with others, and either work independently, or join or create a collaborative group to take advantage of the synergies that come with people working together;
use the process of design to imagine how the world, and specifically the system you’re working with, should work, then generate ideas on how that might be done;
As you develop your design, work to apply the principles of transformation such that your design grows in complexity and remains stable;
people across the world are trying to make sense of the same kinds of complex systems you are, so as you make sense of some part of the world, share what you learn and your insights with the larger world community;
do what you can to prepare your life and the lives of others for the coming changes;
❖ ❖ ❖
We now start the part of the language which gives shape to the primary tool used to create such a world—your mind. These are patterns of thinking which can help you understand the world more comprehensively and discover the unique contributions that you have to offer. These patterns are under your complete control as you are the only one who can change how you think.
First, dig deep and look closely at what makes you who you are: a complex being, in a constant state of change, both perfect and imperfect in how you understand and function in the world;
nurture a sense of humility concerning what you know, so you can be willing to change;
enrich your experience, the source of your knowledge, by moving toward a greater awareness and understanding of your senses and emotions in the present;
continually refine how you relate to and interact with others;
challenge your personal universe by engaging in practices designed to bring you insight about yourself, others and the nature of the universe; these practices set up the conditions that you need to achieve insight;
take control of your learning, carefully curating the information that you are bombarded with and choosing what and how much to learn from it;
engage your brain differently when your creativity is blocked;
take a systems approach to understanding yourself, the world and Nature; get to know a system you want to affect by tracing its parts and how they’re connected;
whether you’re trying to understand a problem or your own mind, use methods of structuring and presenting information as a way to bring clarity, correct errors, and set in order the facts of your experience;
consistently return to and work to improve the fundamental skills and knowledge that are the basis of clear thinking;
make sure you take care of your basic needs so you feel nourished and safe and can focus on the larger ideas, and so your strength can fuel your growth.
