Ritual

Develop rituals and routines to establish some stability in uncertain times.

finding Time to Create can be difficult if there is no structure to your day; while it’s wise to be prepared for the unexpected—Interruptible Thought—there are ways to create some things you can count on.

The world won’t stand still, but if we don’t find ways to anchor ourselves in the swift current of life, we will be at the mercy of chaos.

  • Rituals can help create a structure around your day. Johnathan Fields, in his book Uncertainty, includes them among a number of “certainty anchors” because they can offer a sense of continuity in what might otherwise feel like a swirl of change and uncertainty.

  • There’s a close relationship between routines, practices, and rituals. The differences are between the awareness you need to have about the activity and what it means to you. A routine is usually about getting something done, where a practice is about getting better at something and a ritual is about checking in and making note of something.

  • Routines and practices can be fairly easily converted to rituals which is why I’m talking about them here. Marie Kondo, builds a whole set of rituals around the routines of tidying up by asking you to think about your connection with each item you possess.

Therefore:

Develop rituals and routines to establish some stability in uncertain times.

One of the more beneficial rituals you can begin is a gratitude practice—Gratitude—as it helps ground you in a positive mindset
