Commonships of the Future
Build a creative minority working toward a future of greater complexity for everyone.
while Open Artifacts projects are an important way to build and spread effective solutions across the globe, we need a larger community where people can educate each other about what solutions are needed in the first place.
Without global communities of people working for the common good, it will be very difficult to know if local solutions can be adapted to help all people.
“we will need to develop a community that shares a belief in the evolution of complexity—something on the order of a Fellowship of the Future, a group of kindred spirits dedicated to supporting trends that move in the direction of greater harmony and greater individuation, and to opposing the encroachments of chaos as well as conformity.” (Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, The Evolving Self, pp. 300-301, Kindle edition)

I call it a “commonship” because “fellowship,” for me, has too much of an old boys’ club connotation to it. I think commonship reconnects to the core meaning of “community” or common-unity. It’s people united in working toward the common good.

Commonships of the future can be, and probably should be, global organizations. With the internet, people from all over the planet can work together and learn from each other. This is the opportunity and advantage of this kind of group. There is also a need for local groups or Local Commonships.
Therefore:
Assemble and participate in global groups of world creators charged with working toward a future of greater complexity for everyone. Share your discoveries and insights such that they can be applied locally by local commonships.
Act locally by forming and participating in Local Commonships, ensuring that insight is shared in both directions, from local to global and vice versa
