Levels of Work
Help people understand all the ways they can support a solution.
if we assume that people are essentially engaged in their own creative practice—Sovereign World Creators—we can support them by making it clear what we see as work that needs doing.
When we talk about problems, we often describe how large they are, then follow up with a small task that it supposed to help: the climate is warming, so plant a tree.
- In any solution there are easy tasks and more difficult tasks. For example, if you’re trying to get support for a policy, you can write your senator, sure, but you could also organize a demonstration or create a petition and get thousands of signatures. You might ask your mayor to talk directly with your senator. As much as possible, all these options should be part of your campaign; we shouldn’t assume that people will only do the absolute minimum.
Therefore:
Make it an important part of your campaign to clearly specify what work needs to be done and how the reader can get involved. Don’t be afraid to list some of the big work that needs doing as some people may be willing to take some aspect of that work on as well.
Brainstorm across the organization to come up with all the ways a person might be able to help with implementing a solution, and share your ideas in the campaign’s open artifacts project—Open Campaigns.
