The leadership model
To be a leader, you must have followers. That puts the leader at the top of a hierarchy and the followers below. This is an age-old approach to maintaining control of people. As long as everyone agrees who’s in charge, it can work well.
This seems to work well with smaller groups of people, but I don’t think we can ever have one person that will be accepted as leader by all humanity.
Instead, we can look at a decentralized model. The idea is that individuals and groups will decide how they want to proceed, then join with others who are working toward the same goals. In that sense, the groups working on any given problem are self-organizing.
