Anti-patterns

Patterns are not inherently beneficial by nature. There are plenty of patterns in use that are not effective. An anti-pattern is a pattern that seems like a good idea but produces unexpected side-effects. It seems to me that anti-patterns are a good way to show how things we take for granted, like using competition to decide who runs the country, may not be the best approach.

There are also several books about anti-patterns, but they mostly appear to be limited to software patterns.
